If you work in the nonprofit industry, you'll know this fact already, but let's acknowledge: even before COVID-19, non-profit and fundraising roles are often extremely stressful.
The Chronicle of Philanthropy ran an article in August of 2019 about new research showing that 30% of fundraisers plan to leave the field entirely in the next two years! Reason for this include: pressure to succeed, board members and CEOs who set unreasonable goals and yet aren't supportive, and feeling unappreciated in our work. These are all the signs of a phenomenon called non-profit burnout. How can we combat this, especially when we are all trying to adjust to remote work now? I'm a certified fundraiser (CFRE) with over 20 years of experience in the industry. Over the years, I've battled my own perfectionism, anxiety, post-partum depression, and imposter syndrome. I've come up with many techniques to build self care into my normal workday so that I can survive and thrive in the non-profit sector.
